SOFT, CONFORMABLE AND SUPERABSORBENT MEDICAL FABRICS
SAF™ Absorbent Nonwoven Fabrics are already used widely within the medical market, predominantly as the absorbent layer in highly absorbent wound care dressings. The absorbent material in such medical consumables is there to manage exudates and can have a huge impact on final product performance, patient comfort and ultimate healing. Our fabrics can also be used in spill capture/management to aid transportation and/or infection control.
We can offer a wide range of disposable and washable absorbent components that are safe, soft, conformable and highly absorbent.
Airlaid
Soft, Highly Absorbent Airlaid Nonwovens
Airlaid nonwovens are known for being soft and highly absorbent. Add our SAF™ Fibre into the blend and you have a fabric that is capable of absorbing many times its own weight in aqueous fluid and locking it away inside its core. We can achieve Airlaid webs with up to 60% SAF™ Fibre content, between 70-1,000gsm. Laminate layers can be added to one or both sides for additional functionality.
All our Airlaid Fabrics are supplied either direct by us or one of our trusted global tolling partners. They are sold on rolls at widths of up to 0.6m and can be slit narrower if required. We have a large selection of off-the-shelf Airlaid solutions available and can also engineer bespoke fabrics where commercially viable.
Needlepunch
Needlepunch Nonwovens Engineered to Perform
Needlepunch Fabrics (also referred to as Needlefelts) are exactly that – fabrics that are bonded together by needling. Needling provides a great deal of flexibility and, as a result, such fabrics can be designed to offer high levels of strength and integrity or to be soft and very loosely bonded.
We can manufacture Needlepunch Fabrics at relatively small MOQ’s, with or without SAF™, at a range of weights between 150-1,000gsm. If you require absorbency, up to 80% SAF™ content can be achieved. Laminates and other finishes are possible.

Thermobond
Highly absorbent, Cost-effective, Lightweight nonwovens
Our Thermobond nonwovens are cost-effective, thinner materials that still provide high levels of absorbency. They are lightweight, discrete, conformable, and can be manufactured with a number of layers to enhance performance.
These nonwoven webs can be bonded by hot air to create loftier fabrics with lower density and greater thickness, or can be passed through hot rollers or ovens to deliver a stronger, thinner structure. These fabrics range from 20-80gsm and are typically a blend of SAF™ and other fibres.
Washable
Superabsorbent and Washable Nonwovens
This durable range has been engineered to be washed and reused. To withstand laundering, these truly Superabsorbent Fabrics feature multiple layers, which can be tailored if required to suit specific end product designs.
Once captured within outer layers, these fabrics retain circa 80% of their absorbency after 50 washes at 60°C. Demand for our washable range continues to stimulate interest from the hygiene sector as the reusable period and incontinence industry continues to innovate in order to meet the ever increasing sustainability challenge. These fabrics can also be used in garments for moisture management and evaporative cooling.
Our Washable fabrics range from 190-450gsm and are supplied directly by us or one of our trusted global tolling partners. They are sold on rolls at widths of up to 1.95m and can be slit narrower if required. We have a large selection of off-the-shelf washable solutions available and can also engineer bespoke fabrics where commercially viable.
Netting
Unique Absorbent Woven Nets
Our Superabsorbent Netting Fabrics are truly unique. To create the open net structures, our SAF™ Spun Yarns are knitted together to provide an extremely strong, lightweight absorbent solution. Wicking is made possible by incorporating others fibres in the spun yarns. Net sizes can vary to meet requirements and laminates, e.g. PES nonwoven can also be added on either side.
Yarns
High Performing Absorbent Spun Yarns
Our water swellable Superabsorbent Yarns are commonly a blend of our long staple SAF™ Fibres and polyester. Other synthetic fibres such as nylon, cellulose and aramids can be used as alternatives, or in addition, to add strength and/or functionality. Upon exposure to aqueous fluid the yarns absorb rapidly.
Commercially, SAF™ Yarns are supplied on bobbins that can be sized to suit manufacturing requirements. They are lightweight and easy to onward process. A standard range of yarns are already available and others can be manufactured to meet specific requirements.
Small sample cards of individual yarn types can be purchased for initial assessment. If required, a mixed sample card can be supplied instead.
