Many traditional absorbent materials can take in liquid, but few can effectively retain it. However, the term is generally reserved for materials capable of absorbing and retaining many times their own weight in liquid.<\/p>\n<p>The performance of a superabsorbent is typically expressed as grams of liquid absorbed per gram of dry material (g\/g). While it may absorb a liquid spill, much of that liquid can be released again when pressure is applied. Squeezing, compressing, or even handling the saturated material often results in significant liquid loss. Superabsorbent materials behave differently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through advanced polymer technology, absorbed liquid is retained within the structure, dramatically reducing leakage and fluid release. At a molecular level, these polymers consist of long-chain molecules connected through cross-linking. This cross-linked structure provides stability and prevents the material from dissolving when exposed to liquid.<\/p>\n<p>Within the polymer network are ionic sites that attract and bind water molecules. As liquid enters the structure, these sites draw in and retain fluid, causing the polymer network to expand and swell.<\/p>\n<p>The absorption process continues until the material reaches its maximum swelling capacity. At this point, the cross-linked network restricts further expansion and the material reaches saturation.
