Racing Ahead With SAF Fabrics

One of the world’s leading helmet manufacturers has found a novel use for one of our superabsorbent SAF fabrics. French brand SHARK has integrated a strip of the fabric inside the helmets worn by its riders on the MotoGP circuit, to absorb the sweat so that it doesn’t impair their vision.

Founded by former professional racers, SHARK designs helmets that guarantee high levels of performance and safety and that exceed safety standards. SHARK’s ethos is always to push the technical boundaries and innovate so that each and every biker and racer can enjoy the sheer pleasure and freedom of riding in complete safety. “The addition of the superabsorbent strip provides our SHARK Helmet sponsored riders with extra protection while racing,” explains Racing Manager Florian Fouris.

“We have positioned the SAF fabric at forehead level to avoid sweat running into the riders’ eyes. Previously we used sanitary towels for this application, but then we discovered the SAF fabric range. The fabric is made into a pad at our factory and is used in helmets worn by riders such as Miguel Oliveira, Johann Zarco, Iker Lecuona and five time world champion Jorge Lorenzo.”

From its headquarters in Marseille and its own factories, SHARK manufactures and sells new helmet models each year that are distributed by a network of over 5,000 sales outlets worldwide.
