ENERGY

Efficient use of energy is one of our priorities. Our fuel and heat is sourced from an on-site co-generation plant, which efficiently produces steam and electricity, and we continue to look for ways in which we can drive efficiencies and reduce energy consumption across our facility.

COGENERATION

All of our energy is sourced via Equans on-site cogeneration, the majority of which is delivered via Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT) plants with Combined Heat and Power Quality Assurance (CHPQA).

Cogeneration is a very efficient technology to generate electricity and heat. It is also called Combined Heat and Power (CHP) as cogeneration produces heat and electricity simultaneously. Cogeneration is a thermo-dynamically efficient use of fuel because more energy in the steam is used. This helps reduce energy costs, air and water pollution and also the environmental impact from condensing steam into water.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY:

We seek to drive efficiencies through equipment upgrades and process improvements at every opportunity.

Our facility has improvement targets to reduce energy usage and we continue to look for opportunities to drive efficiencies and reduce our use of non-renewable energy. In the short-term, we are exploring off-setting current Scope 2 Carbon emissions until conventional fossil fuel energy can be replaced by renewables (phased). We are also looking at how we can reduce electricity usage, e.g. we have introduced the use of energy-efficient LED lighting across our facility
